Crown Point residents would most likely board the train at the South Shore Miller Beach, Adam Benjamin Jr. Metro Center, or at the Gary / Chicago Airport. From here, it is about a 35 to 40 minute trip into downtown Chicago.

Crown Point residents can also access many other nearby towns and cities or Chicago using the many highways running through or near Crown Point including U.S. 30 and U.S. 421 and nearby interstates 65, 80/90, and 94.

Crown Point is located just 20 miles from a national park. The Indiana Dunes National Park is located at the southern tip of Lake MIchigan in Chesterton, Indiana. This park, which achieved National Park status in 2019, runs along 15 miles of the Indiana Lake Michigan shoreline.

Anyone can find so much to do at this amazing park. You can climb the sandy dunes located within the park. Take a walk along the shore or down or on one of many nature trails running through the park. Or, just sit by the water and work on your tan or go for a swim in one of the largest freshwater lakes in the world.

Crown Point has a Special Events Department which oversees many events put on by the city to keep the city’s residents active and enjoying their wonderful city.

Crown Point summer time events include a concert series, cruise nights, and a farmer’s market. The Crown Point Summer Concert Series is a set of free, public concerts held in Bulldog Park two evenings a week during the summer. The city holds a farmer’s market featuring handmade products and foods every Saturday during the summer from 8 AM to 1 PM at Bulldog Park. If classic cars rev you up check out the Crown Point Cruise Nights. This recurring event occurs during the last six or seven weeks of the summer from mid-August to late September.

Other summer events include Memorial Day and Fourth of July Day Parades, corn roast, and a city-wide picnic. Crown Point also hosts the Lake County Fair each year in very late July running into early August.

Fall events include Oktoberfest, Halloween Trick or Treat, a Veterans Day ceremony, and as fall runs into winter and the holiday season the city hosts Santa Parade and Tree Lighting Celebration. Also accompanying the holidays seasons is a Winter Market, Tour of Lights, and a Kids New Year’s Eve Party.

Spring events include the Trains in the City Event and several events to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day.
