Shorewood Forest started being developed in the late 1970s and was essentially complete by the very early 2000s. The idea was to build a subdivision exclusively featuring luxury, single family homes in a lake community.  Lake Louise was dug and created to provide the lake element.  The developers also wanted to offer amenities like a clubhouse, pool, and playgrounds.

Today, Shorewood Forest has over 700 single family homes.  Over 2,700 people live in Shorewood Forest.  Residents can enjoy days on Lake Louise, a 225 acre all-sports lake wrapping throughout the subdivision.  This lake is not public; the lake is for the exclusive use of Shorewood Forest residents.  Residents can also enjoy the clubhouse, pool, beach, and playgrounds dotted throughout the community.

Transportation

Residents of Shorewood Forest will need a car.  There is not public transportation in Northwest Indiana.

Shorewood Forest is about 20 minutes from the closest South Shore Commuter Line train station.  The South Shore Commuter Line makes numerous daily stops in nearby Portage and Chesterton.  The train goes to Chicago and South Bend several times a day.

Shorewood Forest lies along U.S. 30 and is close to interstates 65, 94, 80, and 90.
