Heritage Valley is a subdivision on Valparaiso’s south side within the Valparaiso Community School Corporation district made up of single family homes and some condos.  This is a great community especially for families and is one of the top places to live in Valparaiso, IN.

About Heritage Valley

Heritage Valley is a planned use development which began in the 1980s on the side of Valparaiso along the U.S. commercial corridor.  Today, this community features about 200 single family homes, patio homes, and a small condo complex.  The development is also very near commercial businesses on the south side of Valparaiso.

Heritage Valley has different housing types, so it is best to focus on those independently.  We will start with the houses.

Livability And Amenities

Heritage Valley is a robust community with many homes.  This means residents have a greater opportunity to befriend their neighbors.  Also, there are several playgrounds, ball fields, and basketball courts throughout the neighborhood.  There is also a walking trail through the neighborhood.

Heritage Valley is close to Valparaiso and everything it has to offer including its thriving downtown with many locally owned restaurants.

Heritage Valley is a very safe community.  Valparaiso was ranked as the 11th Safest City in Indiana.  Additionally, homes are close enough together it is easy for a resident to be aware of out of the ordinary activity occurring in the neighborhood.

Employment

Heritage Valley is in Valparaiso, a thriving city of 35,000 people and centrally located in the Northwest Indiana region of over 850,000 residents.  Valparaiso is included in the Chicagoland metropolitan area, too.  With so many people living in the same area career opportunities are available.

Valparaiso residents have an income of $54,563.  This is nearly identical to the Indiana state average.  Major employers in or near Valparaiso include Family Express, Horizon Bank, Centier Bank, Porter Regional Hospital, Valparaiso Community Schools, Valparaiso University, Urschels, Pratt Industries, Mittal Steel, U.S. Steel, and BP.

Schools

Heritage Valley students are in the Valparaiso Community School Corporation school district.  Valparaiso Community Schools has received an ‘A’ grade from the Indiana Department of Education.  Valparaiso Community Schools serve over 6,000 students.  The school corporation is large, well-funded, and offers its students a robust set of academic, extracurricular, and athletic opportunities including a Class 5A football program.

Elementary aged students living in Heritage Valley attend Heavilin Elementary School.  This school just opened in 2017.  Heavilin has individually received an ‘A’ grade from the INDOE and was classified as “exceeding expectations” by the U.S. Dept. of Education.  The school is located at 2300 N 50 W Valparaiso, IN 46385 which is just about 2 minutes from the south entrance of Heritage Valley.

Heritage Valley middle school students attend Benjamin Franklin Middle School located at 605 N. Campbell St. Valparaiso, IN 46385.  This school’s state grade is an ‘A’ and has been classified by the U.S. Dept. of Education as “meets expectations.”

Transportation And Location

People living in Heritage Valley likely will need a car.  There is not a robust public transportation system in Valparaiso.  Heritage Valley residents are incredibly close to highways State Road 2 and U.S. 30.  Additionally, the interestates 65, 80, 90, and 94 are each less than 20 minutes away.

Heritage Valley residents are about 20 minutes away from the nearest South Shore Commuter Line train station.  The South Shore Line makes multiple daily stops in Northwest Indiana to take commuters to Chicago.  The line runs as far east as South Bend.

Heritage Valley is located about 55 minutes from the Loop, 4 minutes from downtown Valparaiso, and about 45 minutes from South Bend.  Other nearby cities include Portage, Chesterton, Merrillville, Crown Point, Schererville, and Michigan City.

Many people will find living in Heritage Valley a positive experience.  Notably, younger families will likely enjoy it the most.  Heritage Valley is an affordable, well-kept community with a high safety rating.
